The old west comes alive in our plein air painting classrooms nestled among Rocky Mountains, clear waterfalls and ghost towns.

Escape to Silverton. Live. learn and fall in love with Colorado’s most notorious 19th century mining town, its Victorian houses, western main street, and narrow gauge railroad with its antique steam engines.

Imagine Silverton and its surrounding snow capped peaks, pine and aspen forests, fresh clean air, clear water streams and beaver ponds tailored to fit your own creative style.

Expand your knowledge of color, composition, light and shadow, life drawing, painting techniques, textural surfaces, mood and self expression while master artists and teachers guide you through your medium of choice.

Our classes fit all painting styles, traditional and contemporary. Paint it your way while learning how to make your art richer and more masterful

Levels of Experience:

Beginning, intermediate, advanced, very advanced or professional? Because our classes are small we can offer maximum teacher/student contact, meeting each individual’s need to learn at his or her own rate.

Proposed Schedule:

Sunday:

7:00 pm:  Get acquainted orientation.

Mon.-Fri:

9:00 am: Classes begin with lecture and demo.

10:00 am: We go to the day’s painting site.  (Transportation and lunch will be provided.)

4:00 pm: Social hour and informal critique of day’s work.

5:30 pm: Dinner on your own.

Mon.-Thu:

7:00 pm: Evenings are your choice;

1. Figure drawing with or without instruction.

2. Artistically inspirational lectures.

3. Master artist video series

4. Slide students and/or teachers share their previous art work.

Friday:

6:00 pm: Farewell banquet with visiting guest artist as speaker.

Accommodations:

 will be in one of Silverton’s many old west hotels or motels. All are within walking distance of our workshop center. Camping and camper hookups are also available. Workshop Fee does not include accommodations. A quick perusal of Silverton’s web site lists places to stay. www.silvertoncolorado.com.   We highly recommend you make your reservations ASAP as Silverton’s summers are short and very popular.

 

Travel:

 Air travel to Silverton is available only as far as Durango to the south (70mi), or Montrose to the north (50mi).

Travel by car or motor home over the Million Dollar highway to Silverton is exceptionally rewarding for its beauty and grandeur.

Fees:

The Fee for our Western Workshops is $600 per person per week.

Included

• Entrance fees to sites of interest

• Personal side trips

Registration Form and $300 deposit is due by May 1st . Our classes are small and Silverton fills up fast so we recommend that you reserve your favorite workshop as soon as possible

Balance of $300 is due June 1 . That should leave time for you to make travel arrangements.

Scholarships are available for qualified students.
